School Night Studio was born from a simple belief: creativity doesn’t end when the workday does. As a middle school teacher, I see every day how important unstructured play is and how easy it is to lose as adults. Art doesn’t have to be perfect or expensive or intimidating, but rather, it’s about showing up, getting a little messy, and enjoying the process.

School Night Studio is a reminder that making time for creativity doesn’t have to wait for the weekend. We all need a push to dust off old hobbies, try something new, and create just for the joy of it without pressure or expectations. No one’s too old to make something… especially on a school night.

As a middle school teacher, I know how easy it is to get caught up in the grind of the workweek, so I wanted to create a way to incorporate casual creativity back into the mix. Everyday, I see through my students how necessary it is to carve out time for creativity and unstructured play, especially in our world of ever present screens and constant distractions. That need doesn’t disappear when we grow up; creating doesn’t stop when school ends. It's about dusting off forgotten hobbies, diving into new experiments, and embracing the joy of making a mess. Creativity deserves a place in everyday life, no matter your age or schedule.

I’ve learned art isn’t about perfection. It’s about the physical act of creating and trusting the process, and so many, like myself, stop before we even start because we think it won’t be “good enough”. Along with the onslaught of imposter syndrome, there are so many different mediums and materials that it can be overwhelming just knowing where to start. And, it's not always possible to commit to an expensive, 6-week course or buy supplies every time you want to try a new project. Art doesn't need to be complicated. This is where School Night Studio comes in… 

I wanted to remove those barriers for others and show that everyone has a creative side waiting to be tapped into, whether it’s rested dormant for some time or never really got the chance to shine. The new name is a playful nod to the reality of 9–5 life. A gentle push and reminder that creativity and fun don’t have to wait for the weekend. Everyone can benefit from slowing down, making something with their hands, and having fun with no pressure or expectations.

No one’s too old to jump in and make something, especially on a School Night.
